we make a donation.
For every Lucky Sprout tee shirt purchased, we donate one dollar to a non-profit organization that is doing good things. We choose the benefactors of our giving program based on the valuable work they do in relation to the environmental and social challenges that are at the root of our Lucky Sprout illustrations.
Each tee shirt concept - Peace, Happiness, Water Collecting, etc. - is linked to a specific non-profit organization. The Lucky Sprout company is inspired by the work of the organizations listed below as well as by the courageous and resourceful people who help them operate so successfully.
Smile Train has a singular purpose -- to provide free cleft surgery for children living in impoverished circumstances who are suffering from unrepaired clefts. Children with clefts face very difficult lives when they go without what is a relatively simple and inexpensive corrective surgery.
Smile Train provides free equipment, education, training and on-going financial support for cleft surgeries to economically disadvantaged communities throughout the world making it possible for local doctors, nurses and hospitals to address the problem themselves.
Clean water. It's the inspiration for our Water Collector tee and the focus of Project Wet. Project Wet's mission is "to reach children, parents, educators, and communities of the world with water education." We're excited to help support their award-winning efforts to foster an awareness and appreciation of how preserving the world's clean water supply is fundamental to a healthy and sustainable future.
Established in 1984, Project WET publishes water resource materials, including the Project Wet Curriculum and Activity Guide, provides training workshops on diverse water topics, organizes community water events and is building a worldwide network of educators, scientists and water resource professionals.
We encourage you to visit the Project Wet website. There's a world of water resources ready for you there.
Carolina for Kibera (CFK) was founded in 2001 to help prevent religious and ethnic violence in Kibera, Kenya, through a community-based youth sports program. Run by Kenyans and advised by American and Kenyan volunteers, CFK today serves as a model for holistic, community-based urban development world-wide.
In Kibera, one of the most densely populated urban settlements in the world, one half of its 700,000 residents are under the age of 15. The majority of these children and their families, live with inadequate health care, little access to clean water, the spread of HIV infection and a lack of women's rights. In this challenging environment, the threat of ethnic and religious violence runs high.
We are happy to support CFK's commitment "to promoting youth leadership and ethnic and gender cooperation through sports, young women's empowerment, and community development."
We first heard William Kamkwamba's amazing story when he won a fellowship to attend the 2007 TED awards. He is one of the good seeds who inspires us to work harder and more imaginatively here at Lucky Sprout. Our quest to learn more about William led us to the African Leadership Academy (ALA) whose expressed mission is to transform Africa into a peaceful and prosperous continent by developing and supporting its future leaders.
In 2008, William joined 97 other student leaders from 29 nations in the inaugural class at the ALA where they are developing the necessary skills to design innovative solutions to challenging problems and create entrepreneurial ventures on the African continent. Donations from Lucky Sprout to the African Leadership Academy will help sponsor student scholarships for young people full of potential like William Kamkwamba.
